Busy day at Beacon Hill. A sport climbing area on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong featuring some great slab climbing amongst other things. A climber took the biggest lead fall I’ve personally witnessed off an overhanging route and for a split second I thought he was going to hit the deck but instead the rope caught and he swung into the wall collecting a climber on a neighbouring route, driving the top of her head into the wall. Audible gasps from onlookers. Had a sick feeling as it looked bad – she was helped down and thankfully seemed to be OK. I don’t own shares in a helmet company but this was the second incident in consecutive weeks where helmets would have been a really good idea.
