Pic of the Day: Glenrock Lagoon

I’m back home in Australia for Christmas holidays. Before moving overseas I was mad keen on cross-country mountain biking and the trails at Glenrock Lagoon in Newcastle near where I grew up were my favourite: flowing single track with enough of a technical challenge to keep you honest. Everytime I come home I go for a ride and this time was fortunate enough to come across an echidna (the Australian equivalent of a porcupine). He/she didn’t seem to mind me much at all.

  1. Wow! Now that is quite the character to come across while cycling? Is the echidna related to the anteater? That snout looks like it is meant for some serious digging!

    • Yep, I was very lucky to spot him. Only the second one I have seen in the wild in my life. I had to resort to Wikipedia to answer this but apparently no relation to the anteater although they have a similar diet.
